In a world where career paths are often planned with precision, mine started with curiosity — and a leap of faith. I wasn’t someone who dreamt of cracking IIT or preparing for competitive exams. Honestly? I didn’t even think I’d become a software engineer right after 12th — and that too, in a global tech giant like HCLTech. Never in my wildest dreams.
From “Let’s See What Happens” to “Look What Happened!”
Growing up, I realized I loved math and computer science, but I didn’t have a roadmap. My plan was simple: do a B.Tech from wherever I get in, and figure things out. But then I heard about the HCL TechBee program — a training + job combo for students straight out of school. My first reaction was: “Work in a multinational IT company? Me? I don’t even know how to write a proper email!”
But my dad believed in me before I did. He said, “You can do it.” So, I did.
And the best part? I didn’t have to leave my home city to make it happen. I stayed in Lucknow, worked in Lucknow, and still live with my parents. That in itself feels like a blessing — to build a career without leaving behind the people who’ve supported me since Day 1.
TechBee: A Launchpad, Not Just a Program
The one-year TechBee training changed everything. From writing my first email to handling real application bugs, I learned the ropes of the IT world — not just theoretically, but hands-on. Java, communication skills, time management, debugging, teamwork — I learned it all. It wasn’t just technical growth; it was personal evolution.
When I converted to a full-time employee, I felt like a fresher. I had made capstone projects, knew a few tools and technologies, but had zero live project experience. Still, I was welcomed with open arms. My team made all the difference — they were patient, encouraging, and always up for helping me grow. Whether I was testing APIs, fixing UI issues, or exploring end-to-end development, they made sure I never felt like I didn’t belong.
HCLTech Culture: Where Growth is the Norm
From Day 1, I felt like part of something big — a culture that doesn’t just support your career, but your curiosity. Here, growth isn’t a race; it’s a rhythm. You grow by learning, failing, trying again, and sharing laughter in between tight deadlines.
Even today, every bug I fix and every solution I contribute makes me pause for a second and smile — “Wow, I’m doing this.”
A Student Forever – Even While Working
Despite working full-time, I never gave up on learning. Today, I’m pursuing BSc (Hons) in Data Science and AI from IIT Guwahati — something even math prodigies dream of. And guess what? That too became possible because of HCLTech’s support.
As a TechBee Scholar, I had access to degree programs from top institutes like BITS Pilani, IIIT Kottayam, IIT Guwahati, Amity Online, and SASTRA University. Not only did HCLTech help me get in, but they also partially fund my college fee — letting me truly learn and earn at the same time.
Yes, I’ve missed out on traditional campus life — the chai breaks, fests, and lecture bunks. But I’ve gained something that’s rare at my age: real-world experience, professional mentorship, and a head start in life. By the time many of my friends graduate, I’ll already be years ahead in terms of experience, skills, and clarity.
Signing Off: A Journey Grateful and Growing
When I look back at the girl who doubted herself at the start of TechBee, I just want to hug her and say: “You’re gonna do great.”
This journey has been anything but ordinary — and I’m incredibly grateful to HCLTech for creating a path for students like me. For designing a program that believes in potential, even before experience. For showing that with the right support, ambition doesn’t need a perfect plan — just a bold first step.
To anyone reading this who feels unsure, unqualified, or unready — your doubts don’t define you. Your decisions do. If a schoolgirl can start building software and dreams under one roof, so can you.
And if you ever get stuck on a bug or a decision, just remember: every great journey starts with one brave “yes”.
And I’m just getting started.
